Choices focuses on a collaborative referral process that prioritises the safety and well-being of young people

Choices referrals

Choices meticulous attention enables us to identify potential challenges and collaboratively develop compassionate strategies to navigate any risks.

Our approach is rooted in collaboration, working closely with referrers to collect crucial information, including existing plans and assessments. We understand that each young person comes with their own unique experiences and needs, and we strive to honour that individuality. In our group living accommodations, we strive to create a nurturing and friendly environment, starting with gathering comprehensive background information and an updated risk assessment.

Our commitment to safety goes beyond mere protocol; it is a genuine expression of our desire to provide a supportive haven where every young person feels secure and valued. Through careful evaluation of the Locality Risk Assessment, we thoughtfully consider whether an environment is conducive to the young person's growth and well-being. This meticulous attention enables us to identify potential challenges and collaboratively develop compassionate strategies to navigate any risks.

A Social Worker at Bolton Council shares their experience, 'The young person was matched with the placement, and they had a high level of need in terms of physical and emotional. However, Diane took a professional and nurturing approach to trying to ensure that every area of need was covered.'

Each referral is treated with the utmost respect and is thoughtfully evaluated by two dedicated support managers. Their perspectives ensure that our decisions are not only informed but also deeply considerate of the young person’s needs and hopes. By fostering empathy in our approach, we aspire to create an environment that nurtures growth, resilience, and the possibility of a brighter future.

When a suitable placement is identified, we utilise the Council’s Matching Document to facilitate the best possible connection. This thoughtful matching process considers several important factors, including:

– The specific type of placement the young person requires

– Their behaviours and risks

– Individual support needs

– The location that would best suit their circumstances

– Compatibility with other young people in the accommodation

– Any equality, diversity, and inclusion needs (including language, culture, religion/faith, special educational needs, and/or disabilities).

Once a placement is confirmed, we make it our mission to provide a warm and inviting welcome for the young person. From the moment they arrive, they are greeted by our caring staff and given a thorough tour of the facilities, with opportunities to meet other young residents. We encourage them to personalise their living area, allowing them to fill it with items that resonate with their identity and make them feel truly at home. At admission, we ensure they receive essential items, including bedding, toiletries, towels, and dental care products, so they have everything they need from the start.

It is important to clarify that Choices Supported Living is neither a housing association, a registered social landlord, a registered charity, nor a not-for-profit organisation. We understand the diverse backgrounds of the young people we support, and they are not required to sign any license or tenancy agreements for the services we provide.
